The Surround is a DIY platform run by artists and musicians Rose Dagul and Penny Klein. Started in December 2015, each event invites those working within the wide parameters of music and live performance to try out and share ideas. It is a place where emerging or established artists can showcase new or experimental work in a warm and welcoming environment. 

This is our second compilation.

In May we sent an email out to everyone who had played at The Surround, asking them to make a track following a set of rules -
- Theme is: Summer Solstice. Interpret this as you please.
- Please make something new.
- One track per act, but you can collaborate and form as many acts as you like.
- The track can be no longer than 6 mins, and anything under.
- Keeping it in the spirt of The Surround, see this as an opportunity to make something new and don't feel the need to be too precious about it. If it helps, give yourself just one day to write and record the track. This doesn't have to be a musical track - it can be spoken word, a story, a poem, a play, a lecture - whatever you like.

This album is the result of aforementioned email, and everything was made specifically for it.*

* The one exception being Holy Island Sketchbook's track, which was recorded last year, but seemed too apt not to appear on the album. Consider it a bonus track!
